Rum Cocktail Ingredients

  • 2 oz lightly aged Caribbean rum: You can use white rum or amber colored rum for this drink.

  • 0.75 oz fresh lime juice: Freshly squeezed lime juice adds an essential zesty kick.

  • 0.5 oz orange juice: Sweet and citrusy, fresh orange juice enhances the drink's brightness. Bonus if you can use oranges and freshly squeeze them!

  • 0.5 oz simple syrup: If you don't have this ready-made, take 1 part sugar and 1 part water, place it into a microwave-safe container (make it tall so it doesn't boil over!) and microwave for about 2 minutes, stirring and making sure it doesn't bubble over

  • 2 dashes aromatic bitters: Aromatic bitters are essential for adding layers of complexity.

  • Optional: 0.25 oz falernum: For a touch of spice and an additional tropical flair, falernum can be included. It introduces flavors of ginger and lime, enhancing the overall profile.

Mixology Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Pour the rum, fresh lime juice, orange juice, demerara syrup, aromatic bitters, and falernum (if using) into a cocktail shaker.

  2. Shake It Up: Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is chilled. This step is crucial for a refreshing, icy texture.

  3. Strain and Serve: Choose your glass. Strain the mixture into a chilled coupe glass for a classy presentation or over ice in a rocks glass for a laid-back experience.

  4. Garnish: Complete your cocktail with a garnish of a lime wheel and a thin twist of orange peel—this adds visual appeal and aromatic notes.

Snack Pairings: Elevate Your Cocktail Experience

Salty & Crunchy

  • Plantain Chips: These crispy, savory snacks are a Caribbean favorite. Their texture complements the drink's tropical notes beautifully.
